Welcome to Ankeny, Iowa.
Located ten minutes from downtown Des Moines, Ankeny is one of Iowa's fastest growing communities with a population today of approximately 25,000 residents.
Ankeny is currently the fourth largest city in Polk County, behind Des Moines, West Des Moines, and Urbandale.
Major employers in Ankeny include Deere & Company's Des Moines Works, Perishable Distributors of Iowa (a Hy-Vee Food Stores subsidiary), Tone's Spices, and the Ankeny school district. Casey's General Stores are headquartered in Ankeny, while Younkers operates a distribution center there.
In recent years, several "big box" retailers have opened stores along Delaware Avenue near Interstate 35, including Home Depot, Kohl's, Menards, SuperTarget, and a Wal-Mart SuperCenter. Several large car dealerships are located at the interchange of I-35 and Oralabor Road (Iowa Highway 160).
Ankeny's convenient location at the intersection of I-35 and I-80 coupled with an extremely aggressive economic development initiative, a carefully stocked inventory of shovel-ready sites plus immediate access to the amenities and labor force of a major metropolitan area have made it a great place for business to realize success.
Faith Baptist Bible College and the main campus of Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) are located in Ankeny. The Ankeny Community School District consists of seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school.
Des Moines Area Community College: Ankeny is home to Iowa's largest community college, DMACC is a publicly supported two-year institution serving the Des Moines metropolitan area and surrounding counties.
Ankeny has an excellent recreation and park system. Eighteen parks totaling 295 acres are indicative of Ankeny's commitment toward providing recreational facilities.

The City of Ankeny dedicated the Prairie Ridge Center Youth Sports complex in July 2002. The multi-sport complex is the first of its kind in the State of Iowa with 15 baseball fields, 6 football fields, 11 soccer fields and 6 softball fields.
The Ankeny Family YMCA is the nation's first collaborative effort in which a "Y" is attached to a high school. This joint "Y" school district effort includes an 8-lane, 25-yard pool, gymnasium, cardio-vascular training center, weight room, nursery, multi-purpose room, youth activity room and handball courts.
Saylorville Dam, 2 miles west of the city, forms a 5400-acre lake. Big Creek Lake, north of Ankeny is 866 acres. Both provide opportunities for hiking, boating, swimming, biking, camping and fishing.
